Disney has knocked it out of the park! While it may be true that the studio has seemed to run out of ideas with all the remakes of their classic film library, this one is a revelation. There has never been an animated film with more realistic and stunning visuals than this masterpiece.
It is truly a work of CGI art! Director Jon Favreau should be commended as the final result is jaw-droppingly photo-realistic. The story remains virtually intact as the 1994 original with only slight script changes. As the original is so beloved, any drastic alterations would have met with harsh criticism so relying on the original story-line was a wise move.
Featuring the voices of Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and Billy Eichner as Timon. (Photo: Courtesy)
The film called upon some entertainment heavyweights in casting this film. Alfre Woodard, Amy Sedaris, Donald Glover, Florence Kasumba, Keegan-Michael Key and John Oliver. Reprising his role as Mufasa is the incomparable James Earl Jones, after all, who else can speak like that? Stealing the show are Billy Eichner and Seth Rogan as Timba and Pumbaa.
The music is just as you remember it with the cast doing an exceptional job performing such treasured tunes as, “The Circle of Life”, “Hakuna Matata” and a new song written and performed by Beyonce called “Spirit”. This film is, in our opinion, the best remake of all the recent revisits of the animated classics. It is fresh and nostalgic all at the same time. Don’t wait for the home video release because this film must be experienced on the big screen.
