Debi Nova, the Costa Rican singer-songwriter nominated for the Latin Grammy presents Gran Ciudad, her most honest autobiographical work to date.

Gran Ciudad fulfills the singer's desire to record an album completely live and allows us to have an intimate look at the personal experiences that in one way or another became ideal stories that were captured in her song lyrics.

Under the production of Mario Caldato Jr, the producer of the Beastie Boys and Jack Johnson, among others, Debi gives life to eleven songs that were completely written by herself. The songs are characterized by a sound evolution that was born without the need to fit in a specific genre compared to her previous work, respectively.

"When I had 11 songs chosen, I realized that they effectively told a story: the story of knowing the unknown; what happens when you dare to try new experiences knowing that you can fall and feel alone", the singer confides. Coincidentally, one of those experiences is what gave the album its name. 

Debi Nova grew up in Costa Rica and when she was 17 traveled to Los Angeles to fulfill her dreams. There, in the Gran Ciudad [Great City], she approached for the first time music she didn't much know of and managed to close a tour with Sergio Méndes. This was the first milestone in her career followed by many accomplishments that built her essence. It was in Los Angeles where the songs that are in this album were born, and it was in Brazil - another gran ciudad - where they were recorded. "It's important to celebrate what makes us unique, that's why I decided to title the album Gran Ciudad."

The album includes two important collaborations: with the renowned percussionist Sheila E. in the song "Dale Play" and with the rapper Illa J on bluesy "Este Amores".

"Illa J and I met many years ago and I decided to invite him to a collaboration with me because he called me various times while I was recording 'Este Amores' -  I felt it was a sign. I met Sheila E. in 2015 and was a fan of hers since I discovered her when I was 19. It's an honor for me to have her play the timbales on 'Dale Play' and for her to be in the song's video that was recorded in Bogota, (Colombia) which will be out in April."

La cantautora costarricense nominada al Latin Grammy Debi Nova presenta su nuevo álbum Gran Ciudad, su trabajo más honesto y autobiográfico hasta ahora y disponible ya a la venta.

Gran Ciudad cumple el anhelo de la cantante de grabar un disco completamente en vivo y nos permitirá tener un acercamiento íntimo a experiencias personales que de una u otra manera se convirtieron en historias ideales para quedar plasmadas en la letra de una canción.

De la mano del productor Mario Caldato Jr, productor de los Beastie Boys y Jack Johnson, entre otros, Debi logra dar vida a once temas completamente de su autoría, que se caracterizan por una evolución en el sonido respecto a sus producciones anteriores y que nacieron sin la necesidad de encajar en un género específico.

"Cuando ya tenía las 11 canciones escogidas, me di cuenta de que en efecto contaban una historia, la de conocer lo desconocido, lo que sucede cuando uno se atreve a nuevas experiencias sabiendo que puede caerse y sentirse solo", aseguró la cantante.

Justamente una de esas experiencias es la que le da nombre al álbum. Debi Novacreció en Costa Rica y a sus 17 años viajó a Los Ángeles para cumplir sus sueños. Allí, en una gran ciudad, tuvo su primer acercamiento a música que no conocía y logró cerrar una gira con Sergio Méndes, primer hito en su carrera al que siguieron muchos logros que construyeron su esencia. Fue en Los Ángeles donde nacieron las canciones de este nuevo álbum, y fue en Brasil -otra gran ciudad- en donde fueron grabadas.

"Es importante celebrar eso que nos hace únicos, por eso decidí titular el disco Gran Ciudad".

El álbum incluye dos importantes colaboraciones: la reconocida percusionista Sheila E. en el tema "Dale Play" y el rapero Illa J en el blues "Este Amores".

"Illa J y yo nos conocimos hace muchos años y decidí invitarlo a colaborar conmigo porque me llamó varias veces justo cuando estaba grabando "Este Amores" y sentí que era una señal. A Sheila E. la conocí en el 2015 y soy su fan desde que la descubrí a mis 19 años. Es un honor para mí que toque los timbales en "Dale Play" y que haya podido estar en el video de la canción, que se grabó en Bogotá, (Colombia) y que se estrenará en Abril."
